About

Lachlan McGargill is one of Adelaides most in demand saxophonists. He started pursuing music in 2014, while studying under Chad Lefkowitz-Brown (NYC) and Willie Murrilo (LA). Lachlan pursued his studies, completing his Bachelor of Music at the James Morrison Academy of Music (2020) and was later awarded with First Class Honours at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide (2021). During his studies, Lachlan thrived academically and was awarded ‘Academic Excellence’ at the James Morrison Academy and was given the opportunity to tour Australia with the James Morrison Big Band as lead saxophone.

Upon his return to Adelaide, Lachlan has been heavily involved in projects such as curating a monthly jam session, participating in and creating multiple ensembles, and has recorded several albums as a sideman. Both interstate and internationally, Lachlan has toured with the Australian Pink Floyd tribute band (Just Floyd), has been selected for the Australian National Youth Jazz Orchestra (ANYJO), and was a semifinalist of ‘7 Virtual Jazz Club’ - a world wide contest (8th addition). Additionally, in the past two years, Lachlan has been involved in the ‘JM Jazz World Orchestra’, an international youth jazz orchestra which tours across Europe.

Lachlan has played alongside outstanding musicians such as James Morrison, Will Vinson (NYC), Luis Boinilla (LA), John Riley (NYC), Alex Sipiagin (NYC), Jacki Cooper, the Hindley Street Country Club and many more.

Lachlan’s prowess is undeniable. His dynamic voice runs the gamut from absolute power to the most gentle whisper. It’s a pleasure to work with this young man who is at the forefront of his craft.
